US electric car maker Tesla plans to manufacture 500,000 Model 3 and Model Y a year in its new factory near Berlin. Construction of the Gigafactory 4 is scheduled to begin in 2020.In mid-November, Elon Musk dropped the bomb: the Gigafactory 4 is to be built in Grunheide in Brandenburg , not far from Berlin. According to a report by the Bild newspaper (Paywall) , Musk plans to roll 500,000 Model 3 and Model Y rolls off the assembly line every year in the German factory. For comparison: This year, a good 360,000 Tesla vehicles will be delivered worldwide.

Tesla is currently building its electric cars primarily at its main plant in Fremont, California. That should have a capacity of up to 500,000 electric cars. Gigafactory plants 1 and 2 in Nevada and Buffalo manufacture batteries and photostatic. The Gigafactory 3, which was designed for electric car construction, is currently being built in China. In its first stage of expansion, the large factory in Shanghai is expected to spit out 150,000 electric cars per year. The full production capacity eventually amounts to 500,000 vehicles per year . The predicted half a million electric cars from Grunheide are therefore a realistic assumption. According to the Bild newspaper, the Gigafactory 4 should be as large as 420 soccer fields, writes the Reuters news agency . According to planning documents, the construction of the factory should start as early as 2020. Tesla intends to invest up to four billion euros in the new production site. 10,000 new jobs are to be created in Brandenburg and Berlin.

Tesla had delivered 97,000 of its electric cars in the third quarter, a new record. However, sales decreased eight percent to $ 6.3 billion. The bottom line, however, was an increase of $ 143 million. The E-SUV Model Y, which is due to go into series production in summer 2020, should provide new momentum.
