NASA will send its Mars 2020 rover to the red planet. It is the second rover being sent to Mars as a part of the MEP (Mars Exploration Program), it will also be one of the eight missions discovering the surface and atmosphere of the planet. This comprises of the new InSight landing unit, Curiosity rover as well as the Opportunity rover.

As the release date approaches, NASA is currently preparing the latest member of the Mars Exploration Team. Significance of the Mars Exploration Program

NASA’s Mars Exploration Program is a scientific study based on the Mars technology as a planetary system to understand formation as well as the early evolution of Mars, history of the geological and climatic processes that formed Mars over time, Martian-life potential, Mars future exploration by humans and how Mars is comparable with the Earth.

The main objectives of the Mars Exploration Program are listed as (1)Maintain a scientific presence on the Mars (2)Make continuous improvements to the technical capabilities of Mars’ robotic missions (3) Use measurement opportunities that help advance the knowledge needed for future human exploration of Mars (4) Ensure that scientific measures that may allow human exploration of Mars are taken into account during the flight  (5)Support the communication activities necessary to carry out the MPE’s core scientific mission and NASA’s objectives to develop the scientific culture in the country.

To support an integrated program structure, Mars Explore Program implements a series of activities that provide cross-functional functions and long-term investments for the future. There are many strategic, practical and scientific reasons for humans to explore Mars. Among them, we know that Mars is the most accessible place in the solar system. In addition, the exploration of Mars offers the opportunity to answer questions about the origin and evolution of life and may one day be a destination for human survival.

In general, exploring Mars can effectively solve many of the key questions in solar system science. This effort also inspires the next generation of explorers and significantly expands human knowledge. MEP invests in its Mars technologies while keeping abreast of the complementary innovations from NASA and the space industry. The technology investments that are unique to Mars include Mars ascent Vehicle, Planetary protection technologies and from robots to human. Considering these objectives and the facts, it is expected that the Mars Exploration Program will be very successful.
